Cables, adapters, conduits, dials, and antennas, we seem to overlook these things when the frequency is running just fine, but the minute we get an interruption in service…
There are a number of keys to connecting to a frequency and at some point they all involve a receiver tuning into the signal. The “bars” on our cellphones are extremely useful because they help us understand the strength of the signal we are receiving. These bars also provide comfort and assurance to us concerning the quality of the connection we are making. Wouldn’t it be great if we had “bars” for our spiritual life?
Overwhelmingly, the number of people looking for God’s guidance in their daily lives is immense. It seems the vast majority of us are searching for “his will” but yet we question if we’re receiving a good signal. How can we connect properly with the voice, frequency, of God?
The Bible is often referred to as the “word of God.” As such it’s the best place to find the frequency of God, God’s voice. It is filled with hundreds of stories concerning how God has interacted with men and women as well as timeless truths for living life. It is a key connection tool for tuning in the frequency of God.
The Bible's significance is not an object to be worshipped, rather it’s significance is that it is a cable that connects us to the frequency of God’s voice. The apostle Peter states it like this: “these prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.” (2 Peter 2:21) This is why it’s critical to frequently connect with this frequency. Paul adds that: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true…. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2Timothy 3:16)
Fine Tuning
- Think of a time when you had to adjust an antenna, reposition a device, or plug in a cable to receive a signal. Why was this important?
- What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to increase the “bars” on your cellphone?
- What comes to mind when you hear “the Bible is the word of God”?
- If the Bible is the word of God, how can that influence our desire to frequently explore what’s in the Bible?
- Why is it that people, maybe even you, can read the Bible and feel disconnected from God?
- The Bible is not equal to God, no more than a coax cable is equal to the TV broadcast. It is a conduit for the frequency of God. Our faith must be connected to God in order for the Bible to impact our lives. With this in mind, how can our Bible readings be more effective and not just more frequent?
